Once in awhile I read a book that not only surprises me, but changes the way I see my future. It demystifies self-publishing, Kickstarter, creative freedom and much more! This is a must-read book I’m proud to endorse!
To be truthful, Jason Brubaker has already been an inspiration to me. He not only pushed this talent far enough to be a Dreamworks visual development artist, but he has also created one of the most beautiful graphic novels I’ve ever seen, successfully raised over 127,000 on kickstarter, and (to my delight) published Unnatural Talent to share every nugget of wisdom he gained in this journey. But before I review the book too far, I’ve got to share a link to his full, free webcomic:
Before I received my book in the mail, I admit I was merely curious. I didn’t realize what a page turner this book would be. After all, it’s just another how-to book, right? Wrong. Jason is a great storyteller, which makes this book all the more enjoyable and memorable. He starts right away debunking the myths surrounding “talent” and giving us tips to overcome the roadblocks we’ll surely encounter when creating our own Intellectual Properties (I.P.) and he doesn’t stop there. Really, after reading the book I feel like I have every puzzle piece I need to start building a successful launch for my next book. Yeah, I’ll have to put the pieces together, but I will keep this on my top bookshelf as a reference every step of the way.
One of my favorite sections was “50 ideas To Grow Your Fan Base” It broke the ideas into 4 sections, depending on how many fans you already have and how much money you have to spend. This is not JUST a book for a beginner, it is meant to help an artist market their I.P. every step of the way – whether the issue is traffic to your website, the site design, money, printing, copyrights, or even simply writing the comic.
And besides the chapter on creating comics, I think this book applies to any other creative project we’d like to profit from … probably to any entrepreneurial project period. So what are you waiting for? Check it out by clicking the image below. Thank you for reading. And thank you Jason Brubaker for your inspiring books. We can’t wait to see more!
